MUST SEE
Dormition Cathedral
For those interested in history this Cathedral of the Yaroslavl Metropolis and Eparchy — the oldest church in Yaroslavl — is a must-visit. In the Soviet times, it was completely destroyed, and in the beginning of the 21st century — rebuilt as per a new project.
You can learn the whole history of the Dormition Cathedral on the ground floor of the building: there is a museum where you can listen to the most interesting facts about this place.
Yaroslavl Art Museum
The cultural program can be continued in the Art Museum founded more than 100 years ago. In the museum, there are more than 80,000 works, so you will surely find something interesting for yourself, and thus get to know Yaroslavl better.
The entrance fees for expositions and exhibitions range from 150 to 400 rubles, and tours will cost you from 600 to 800 rubles per person.
Tolga Convent of the Presentation of the Virgin Mary
The Tolga Convent is a massive structure that will amaze you with its size. It is located straight on the bank of the Volga River, so you can also enjoy the beauty of one of the largest rivers in the world.
If after numerous tours you need some peace and quiet, this place is perfect for you. It is well-known, among other things, for its ambiance, which is literally filled with serenity and tranquility.
Church of Elijah the Prophet
This church is located in the center of Yaroslavl and it’s the most famous landmark of the city. Its peculiarity is that the building has been preserved in its original form, although it was built in the 1650s. You can get to it using any kind of public transport that runs via Krasnaya, Volkovskaya, and Bogoyavlenskaya Squares.
Now its status is a museum, and from May to September, regular tours are arranged for tourists. In case it rains, the temple is closed because of a considerable risk of damage to the frescoes. Therefore, when the weather is bad, it’s better to choose other spots to visit so as not to waste your time.
Yaroslavl Historical-Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve
It will not be difficult to get to the Museum-Reserve: it is located in the center of Yaroslavl, so feel free to take any public transport going to the «Bogoyavlenskaya Square» stop. The cost of a unified ticket is 400 rubles, and the price of individual exhibitions ranges from 130 to 250 rubles.
The area of the reserve is almost 8,000 sq. meters, and there are many sights on its territory. To have enough time to look at the she-bear called Masha, a bell chamber, and other interesting spots in the reserve, the best solution would be to use the guide’s services, the cost of which starts from 600 rubles.
Church of St. John the Baptist in Tolchkovo
Is it possible to ignore the building depicted on the reverse side of a thousand-ruble banknote? Despite the apparent fame of the church, many guests of Yaroslavl bypass it, because it is surrounded by ordinary industrial buildings and located outside of popular tourist routes. We will share the address — the 2nd Zakotoroslnaya Embankment, 69 — specifically for you not to miss the landmark.
